At the same time, I have been wondering and pondering over my
calling as Relief Society president and trying to figure the way to go with this.

Well, today was the first day in a long time that I have actually been able to spend a lengthy time with my
studying of the scriptures, towards the end of my reading I finally started to get some answers. DC
112:28 says: But purify your hearts before me" which really stood out. I will now be studying and
learning more about purifying my heart. Then I read 112:33 "Verily I say unto you, behold how great is
your calling. Cleanse your hearts and your garments, lest the blood of this generation be required at
your hands." Foot note to Cleans is: Jacob 1:19: 19 And we did magnify our office unto the Lord,
taking upon us the responsibility, answering the sins of the people upon our own heads if we did not
teachthem the word of God with all diligence; wherefore, by laboring with our might their "blood might
not come upon our garments; otherwise their blood would come upon our garments, and we would not
be found spotless at the last day. It reaffirmed to me that this is what we must keep doing, and our

Christmas program is exactly right. We need to change the tradition and we must teach the words of
Christ. Next footnote is Jacob 2:2 which says: 2 Now, my beloved brethren, I, Jacob, according to the
responsibility which I am under to God, to magnify mine office with soberness, and that I might rid
my garments of your sins, I come up into the temple this day that I might declare unto you the word of
God. I understood this for me to be keep going to the temple and we will find the words tha~ we need
to be saying: Also what came to mind is the very last paragraph in the last step of the 12 step, which
states: You can share this message with others through your example and your words of
encouragement. When you meet people throughout the day, greet them with a smile. Show gratitude
for what they do. When opportunities arise, bear testimony of the hope that comes through the
Atonement of Jesus Christ. Testimony must be born at the Christmas dinner.

Here are some excerpts from our leaders on Testimony:

Some of us are naturally reserved and timid about bearing our testimony with words. Perhaps we should
not be so timid. The Doctrine and Covenants tells us, "But with some I am not well pleased, for they will
not open their mouths, but they hide the talent which I have given unto them, because of the fear of
man" (D&C 60:2). When we do bear testimony, we should testify with a spirit of humility. Section 38 of
the Doctrine and Covenants reminds us, "And let your preaching be the warning voice, every man to his
neighbor, in mildness and in meekness" (D&C 38:41).(James E. Faust, "The Importance of Bearing
Testimony," Ensign, Mar 1997, 2)

In a talk given to a group of missionaries when he was a member of the Council of the Twelve,
President Kimball spoke about the importance of testimony bearing, he said:

"Now this testimony bearing is not some strange eccentric thing which only we do. This is a
fundamental part of the Church .... I remember bearing my testimony when I was just a child in
Primary and in Sunday School. It is basic. It is important ... We have critics who say it is silly to
have little children bear their testimonies and that they cannot know it is true. Undoubtedly their
knowledge is limited. But they can have feelings, and testimonies are feelings, not merely the
accumulation of facts. Testimonies come from the heart. And so, they become a basic thing ....
We have testimonies all through the Church. When we get a group of presidents of missions
together, we bear our testimonies and when members get together in little groups almost
anywhere they formally or informally bear their testimonies.

"At home we bear testimonies, we of the Twelve. The eighteen and a half years I have been in
the Twelve, we have been holding a quarterly testimony meeting. We go to the temple early in
the morning, the twelve of us, or as many as are not too far away from headquarters, ... in our
own room upon the fourth floor. Here is a room in which there are twelve old leather-covered
chairs. They are very old. I think they have been occupied by apostles for half a century at least.
The leather is wearing, but they are still comfortable old chairs. They are in a semicircle. We
have our clerk there. President Smith sits at one end and the youngest member sits at the other.
We sit in horse-shoe fashion. We sing. Brother Lee plays the organ or he leads the singing and I
play the organ. We have a little pump organ which we pump with our feet. We pray very
earnestly for the Spirit of the Lord to be with us and then we hear the minutes of our last meeting
in great detail. The minutes take fifteen or twenty minutes to read ... (and they) are thrilling. We
hear again the testimonies we heard three months ago from the brethren.

"Then President Smith, who is President of the Twelve, generally stands up and with his books
in his hand opens the scriptures to us, I think a great deal like the Lord did to the two men on
their way to Emmaus ...

"We are fasting. Two of us administer to (the sacrament} and we pass (it) to each other. And
then the testimonies begin. We spend three or four hours, just the twelve of us, bearing testimony
to each other. I mention this so you may know (that testimony bearing) is basic and is an
important part of the Church program. If the Twelve Apostles need to bear testimony to each
other to express themselves and speak their gratitude to the Lord, then the missionaries may need
it too, to sustain and lift and inspire them, and to keep the fires burning. We sing again, and pray,
and go back to our regular duties.

"Now we have another testimony meeting every six months on the Thursday preceding the
General Conference. All of the General Authorities are there ... in the room of the Presidency
and the Twelve in the temple. At the top is a chair in which the President sits. Never does any
one sit in that chair, except the Prophet of the Lord. Even though his counselors conduct the
meeting when he is gone, they always sit in their own chairs ...

"The sacrament is administered by two of the brethren, (we are fasting) generally two of the
Twelve. Then we have our testimonies. The Patriarch, one of the Bishopric, one of the Seventies,

one of the assistants, one or more of the Twelve, and all three of the Presidency, bear their
testimonies. It is a glorious experience to have it all capped by the testimony of the Prophet of
the Lord. To hear him stand there and say, 'I know it is true. I know the Lord is responding. He
is revealing His mind and will to us.' I tell you that is an experience to remember.

"I mention this so you do not think that testimony bearing is some little thing that is incidental to
the mission only. This is the Church program. It is powerful and mighty ... It is the lifeblood of
the organization and of the Church." (The Berlin Spirit, January 1962.) (Spencer W. Kimball,
"The Lifeblood of the Church," Tambuli, Jul 1978,40)

There are in those hours on Sunday and in a family home evening on Monday the opportunity to
combine genuine caring, teaching the gospel, and the bearing of testimony. Across the earth
there are families who love and understand their covenants who do that. From my front window I
have seen parents, their children at their sides, move down the street to the home of a neighbor to
offer comfort, to give Christlike service. I wasn't there to see it, but surely the warmth of those
moments lingered later at home when a song of Zion was sung, a prayer given that likely
included a plea for the person visited, a scripture read, a short lesson taught, and testimonies of
the restored gospel borne. (Henry B. Eyring, "Witnesses for God," Ensign, Nov 1996,30)

There is a caution I would give and a promise I would offer about such choices of how to use
family time. For a person not yet a member ofthe Church, to fail to provide such moments of
love and faith is simply a lost opportunity. But for those under covenant, it is much more. There
are few places where the covenant to love and to bear witness is more easily kept than in the
home. And there are few places where it can matter more for those for whom we are
accountable. For members of the Church, my caution is that to neglect those opportunities is a
choice not to keep sacred covenants.

Because God always honors covenants, I can make a promise to those who in faith keep the
covenant to create experiences of giving love and bearing testimony with their families. They
will reap a harvest of hearts touched, faith in Jesus Christ exercised unto repentance, and the
desire and the power to keep covenants strengthened. Henry B. Eyring, "Witnesses for God,"

Ensign, Nov 1996, 30

Find Your Testimony by Bearing It

It is not unusual to have a missionary say, "How can I bear testimony until I get one? How can I
testify that God lives, that Jesus is the Christ, and that the gospel is true? If! do not have such a
testimony, would that not be dishonest?"

Oh, if I could teach you this one principle: a testimony is to be found in the bearing of it!

Somewhere in your quest for spiritual knowledge, there is that "leap of faith," as the
philosophers call it. It is the moment when you have gone to the edge of the light and stepped
into the darkness to discover that the way is lighted ahead for just a footstep or two. "The spirit
of man is," as the scripture says, indeed "the candle of the Lord" (Proverbs 20:27).

It is one thing to receive a witness from what you have read or what another has said; and that is
a necessary beginning. It is quite another to have the Spirit confirm to you in your bosom that
what you have testified is true. Can you not see that it will be supplied as you share it? As you
give that which you have, there is a replacement, with increase!

To speak out is the test of your faith.

Bear testimony of the things that you hope are true, as an act of faith. It is something of an
experiment, like the experiment that the prophet Alma proposed to his followers. We begin with
faith-not with a perfect knowledge of things. That sermon in the 32nd chapter of Alma is one of
the greatest messages in holy writ, for it is addressed to the beginner, to the humble seeker. And
it holds a key to a witness of the truth.

The Spirit and testimony of Christ will come to you for the most part when, and remain with you
only if, you share it. In that process is the very essence of the gospel.

Is not this a perfect demonstration of Christianity? You cannot find it, nor keep it, nor enlarge it /'
unless and until you are willing to share it. It is by giving it away freely that it becomes yours. ("
(Boyd K. Packer, "The Quest for Spiritual Knowledge," NewEra, Jan 2007, 2-7)

The Light of Love

I love my husband, my children, their spouses, and my grandchildren so much it almost hurts. The only thing I want is to be with them forever and ever. I can't imagine life without them. Why does it feel like a hurt sometimes? What do I have to do to ensure an eternal family? How can I share that with my family?

I Read DC 88. I learned, laws are gifts to teach us to be like God. As we live each law or commandment we become more like Him. It is through keeping the laws that we are sanctified and redeemed.

God is love. As we learn to love God and become more like Him our capacity to love grows. Elder Eyring said in Ensign NOv 1996: The fruit of keeping covenants is the companionship of the Holy Ghost and an increase in the power to love."

We have to love God more then our spouse, children or grandchildren. As we do we will come closer and closer to the longed for Godlike attribute of eternal families.

So, what is it that I must do now?

Ask yourself this question, How do I qualify more fully for the Holy Ghost to guide me and help me know what I must do? Or some similar question. Then start reading the scriptures, in what ever way you need to. The answer will come. Mine came like this. I decided to just keep reading the D&C as usual, with my study guide. I read section 93 vs 1 says...every soul who forsaketh his sins and cometh unto me, and calleth on my name and obeyeth my voice, and keepth my commandments, shall see my face and know that I am." Wow great promise, but lots to do. What again do I need more specifically in my life? So the section goes on and tells me what the Savior is, and what is light and truth and then....93:48 Your family must needs repent and forsake some things, and give more earnest heed unto your sayings (the prophets), or be removed out of their place. .....Pray always lest that wicked one have power in you, and remove you out of your place." Pray, for me, is where I need to draw closer to Him. My prayers have got to be able to draw the spirit in to me. My prayers have got to be more exact. I was then reminded of Elder Eyrings article in the Aug 2009 Ensign "That He May Write upon Our Hearts." So I read, and again Prayer is the answer.
Today, as we live in a spiritually &
President Benson said “Many parents, in and out of the Church, are concerned about protection against a cascading avalanche of wickedness, which threatens to engulf the world. There is a power associated with the ordinances of heaven, even the power of godliness, which can and will thwart the forces of evil, if we will but be worthy of those sacred covenants made in the temple of the Lord. Our families will be protected, our children will be safeguarded as we live the gospel, visit the temple, and live close to the Lord.

There is a moment in almost every couple’s life that is very profound, very powerful, and that is the moment after much travail that we bare a child into this world. The feelings are unexplainable. Russell M Nelson said: When a woman bares and care for a child she glorifies God. That’s why that moment is so powerful. You are glorifying God. and I am finally free from pain, we were together at last, happiness, love and the spirit of the Lord filled the room. And I said can it get any better then this?

But then as I was raising my kids, I experienced other moments. One of my favorite moments ever, was watching them all play together outside in the dirt, Pretending to build huts and roads or whatever and I could see them all, they were together. They were safe, they were free, content, and happy, and I was filled with love and the spirit of the Lord. It can’t get any better then this..
<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; We experienced More ultimate moments as we watched three of our children be sealed in the house of the Lord: We were safe, we were free, we were together, content, and happy. Love and the spirit of the Lord was thick. I’ve never loved my family more. It can’t get any better then this. We are anxiously waiting for the day the other two will be with us in the temple. It may take more travail and more labor to get one of them there, but labor we will until that day..
<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; coming: It’s worth being parents just to have grandchildren. Last week end we had 3 of them and their parents at the house, and at 4:30 in the morning little Gracie was ready to get up and play. “Hello Mommy, she happily said.:, mommy wasn’t quit so happy. But Grandma and Grandpa were. So when it got light enough Grandpa and I took her outside. There she was floating through our yard chasing butterflies. And then I was picking my green beans and there she was sprawled out beside me in the dirt on her belly , barefoot and in her pajamas pretending who knows what. But She was safe, she was free, content, happy and I was filled with love and the spirit of the lord. Can it get any better then this?

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px;
Tomorrow I head out to Alabama to help to bare another special spirit into this world. I am anxiously waiting for the moment that she will, after much travail, be placed in her mothers arms. She will be safe, Mom will be free from pain, happiness , love, and the spirit of the Lord will fill the room once again. And so it keeps going.

Well, there is another very similar but even more profound and powerful moment that we all should be preparing for and that is the moment, after much travail, that we bare our families back in to the presence of our Father. That is the day we will truly glorify God, There we will be safe, we will be free, together, content and filled with a fullness of love and joy and a fullness of the spirit. and there is no other way to reach that moment then through the Holy Temples and the sealing power of the Priesthood. It won’t get any better then that, will it?

That is why I go to the temple. So I can be taught what it is I need to do so I can have that ultimate experience with my famiiy.

We invite everyone to do something to bring the temple closer to you. As we touch the temple, the temple will touch us. Pres Monson.

And on July 29th Of course, I said yes, trying to sound joyful about it. But the truth was I hate to miss Relief Society and all the wonderful lessons in there. But I wore my most comfortable dress, kicked my shoes off when I walked in and sat down on the floor to see what I could do to help.

Tessa was wanting mommy. So I distracted her with the little kitchen set, and a baby doll to feed. She was willing to play, but only half heartedly. And every now and then she would look at me and say "Mommy". We then moved to the rocking chair to read a book. Now she settled into my lap seeming to accept it as a substitute for her mothers. Then the bubbles came out and off my lap she hopped to play with the bubbles seeming as happy as ever.

Next came Marie, who is over two years old and still has to have mom in the nursery with her. I coaxed her on to my lap and began to read a book to her. We were finding the puppy dog and the cat on each page. When she finally started to respond to my questions and tell me what the puppy said, I said Good Job Marie and little face just lit up with excitement. So on we went through the book, and now she began to tell me about her pens with the cows and horses and pigs in them. Now she is just beaming every time we find something new in the book. Mean while mom has left the nursery. She then was able to jump off my lap and play with the parachute all the while smiling and smiling.

Izzy: Isabella was also thinking she needed mommy. Her eyes just lit up when we sang wheels on the bus and Daddies on the bus go read read read. She then started jabbering about her daddy. Her sparkling eyes and big huge dimples made me smile, and see that there is light in the nursery. The children just needed to feel safe and secure and that someone cared. And I needed to remember that through little children we can find simple and uncomplicated light.

The light of Tender Mercies

For our family scritpure study this year, instead of reading the Book of Mormon straight through like we usually do, we are taking a subject and reading every scripture that is about this subject. We chose faith. So last night we read our first scripture. 1 Nephi 1:20. ."...I Nephi, will show unto you that the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance." We then talked about the tender mercies the Lord has shown us recently. 1. Bruce got sick Saturday and it looked like it was going to be a bad one, but was recovered by Sunday night. 2. I had spoken with three people during the day, that had something to tell me that taught me things, unbeknowst to them, that I need to be sure to work on in my life. 1. We can not condemn people for their weaknesses, no matter how much it bugs us. If we do, it will turn to our own condemnation. 2. We must not withhold our compliments to others even for their slightest efforts. Always be aware of the efforts of others, even if those efforts are small and seem insignificant to us. We do not make big huge changes over night, they are gradual and ever so slight and we even sometimes slide backwards at times. The Lord accepts our efforts and we need to do the same for others. 3. If we are faithful the Lord will provide a way for our deliverance from whatever our trial is at the moment. Which leads to one of my newest favorite scriptures. DC 35:24 "Keep all the commandments and covenants by which you are bound and I will cause the heavens to shake for your good, and satan shall tremble, and zion shall rejoice upon the hills and flourish." He will deliver us.

Let Charity abound

As I have struggled the last few months, and especially this last week on where to draw the lines of standing for whats right and showing love for persons who are violating God's commands, I received light and inspiration once again as the Sun Rose. I found myself three times in this last week finding basically the same answer in three different places.

First I was studying DC 18 and 19. DC 18:10-12 & 19. Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God; For, behold, the Lord your Redeemer suffered death in the flesh: wherefore he suffered the pain of all men, that all men might repent and come unto him. ..... And if you have not faith, hope, and charity, you can do nothing. I am always worried that this person doesn't understand the gravity of the situation and that I need to harp on them and nag them into repentance. I also felt I needed to do some punishing by withholding support of even some good actions on their part. Obviously this way does not work. We have to have charity and do things and say things that communicate complete love and understanding. We need to show faith in our Saviors plan and realize each person has their own path which they choose and we can let it be in the hands of the Lord to judge and punish. Each soul is precious, each one must be given opportunities to turn to the Lord and receive His light. I must be a light and an example through the light of charity which suffereth long, and is kind,...is not easily provoked....Wherefore, my beloved brethern, if ye have not charity, ye are nothing, for charity never faileth... Moroni 7:45 I am going to hold to the promise that it never faileth.

Second: I was reading our Relief Society lesson. Pres. Monson's talk in conference this past conference, Finding Joy in the Journey. In there he says: "Never let a problem to be solved become more important than the person to be loved."

Third: I was reading for the Sunday School Lesson Mormon 1 - 6 and Moroni 9: Here is Mormon surrounded by wickedness, leading them into battle, not withstanding their wickedness because he loved them, according to the love of God which was in him. Mormon 3:12. For a time he refused to take them into battle, but in Mormon 5:1 he repents of his oath and goes once again to battle with them, having no hope, for he knew the judgementsw of the lord would come. Then in Moroni 9: 4-6, he says he labors with them continually, "let us labor diligently; for if we should cease to labor, we should be brought under condemnation; for we have a labor to perform whilst in this tabernacle of clay, that we may conquer the enemy of all righteousness, and rest our souls in the kingdom of God. Moroni's situation is far more precarious and awful then mine. I still have hope. Moroni is a great example of love and enduring to the end.

Each reading this week gave me a deeper understanding and feeling of love. I have certain actions that I must accept and be supportive of. I need to pray for these feelings to be with me when I am confronting each new situation and have the kind of conversation that would allow the spirit to be there. DC 88: 125 And above all things, clothe yourselves with the bond of charity, as with a mantle, which is the bond of perfectness and PEACE. I know this is a learning process and I will not be perfect at it. However, even Moroni gave up for a little while and then repented and went forward with his mission, laboring diligently until the end.

Now putting all this into practice will be another story. I'm sure I will fail miserably at times. I will have to review this lesson often so i can REMEMBER.

The Lord will not come to reign over the righteous… Until everything for the Bridegroom is ready

What needs to be made ready?
In our own earthly experience, as we prepare for a wedding party, the first things we women would do would be to clean house, wouldn't we? Everything must be in perfect order. I remember preparing for Brittney's wedding, I even cleaned behind the washer and dryer, and what guest would have ever looked behind there? No one, but it sure felt good when it was done.

Well, the earth must be cleansed also, thus we see wars, and rumors of wars, vapors of smoke, famines, pestilence and earthquakes in diverse places. The earths way of cleaning house. Its part of what must happen. We also need to be cleaning our homes, our hearts and our minds.

What must the bride do to be ready? In the Joseph Smith manual it states: “Brother Joseph arose and said, to receive revelation and the blessings of heaven it was necessary to

Have our minds on God and

Exercise faith and or be Faithful

become of one heart and of one mind.

Therefore he recommended all present to pray separately and vocally to the Lord for [Him] to reveal His will unto us concerning the upbuilding of Zion and for the benefit of the Saints.” Each high priest “bowed down before the Lord” and then spoke of his feelings and

determination to keep the commandments of God.3

After all present at this meeting described above, Joseph Smith then received what is Section 88 of the Doctrine and Covenants.

If we look at each directive and apply to ourselves preparing to meet our Bridegroom, we can also find deeper meaning in preparing ourselves to receive Him.

Every bride has her mind on her bridegroom. You can see it in her eyes. They convey love, and adoration. She seems somewhat oblivious to the preparations going on around her, as she keeps her mind on Him. That we must do also, to be able to make it through the cleansing process. We ourselves may get scrubbed in the washing, but we are ok, because our eyes are on Him.

She is faithful to him. No one comes before Him. Does anyone or anything come before Him in our lives? Are we distracted by the glitter and the noise of the world?

Become One. If ye are not one ye are not mine. As we become one with our Savior, we will become more one as a husband and wife, as a family, as a ward, and as a neighborhood. There is power in One. And it takes great individual exertion. Joseph Smith said “Let the Saints remember that great things depend on their individual exertion, and that they are called to be co-workers with us and the Holy Spirit in accomplishing the great work of the last days; and in consideration of the extent, the blessings and glories of the same, let every selfish feeling be not only buried, but annihilated; and let love to God and man predominate, and reign triumphant in every mind, that their hearts may become like unto Enoch’s of old, and comprehend all things, present, past and future, and come behind in no gift, waiting for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Let us pray to God without ceasing that we may know personally the things we need to do to prepare ourselves and our families for His coming. Elder Bednar spoke of Prayer in this last general conference and how to improve our prayers. Please read it.

As we submit ourselves to the will of the Savior, and keep His commandments what happens to us? Are we beaten down and abused. No, not with him who is the perfect bridegroom. He raises us up. We become as he is and we receive all that he has. He receives us into His mansion, prepared by His hand. DC 81:6 And if thou art faithful unto the end thou shalt have a crown of immortality, and eternal life in the mansion which I have prepared in the house of my Father.

As we think of the bridegroom, the other parable that comes to mind is that of the 10 virgins. Let us be like the five wise virgins and fill our lamps with oil that we may LIGHT our way. DC 45: 56, 57 They took the Holy Spirit as their guide and they were not deceived. The Lord will not come to them as a thief in the Night, for they are children of the light, and he will come as the light of the morning cometh out of the east and shineth even unto the west, and covereth the whole earth.
Fill yourselves with light that you might dispel the darkness around us. DC 50: 24 That which is of God is light and he that receiveth light and continueth in God receiveth more light and that light growth brighter and brighter until the perfect day.
<img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

DC 33:17 Wherefore, be faithful, praying always, having your lamps timmed and burning, and oil with you, that you may be ready at the coming of the Bridegroom--

DC 101:16
